The bold with a blue dot are items (topics, images) and the rest are comments. But I agree, it looks inconsistent, and I’ve opened a bug report on it.

The editor is very extensible, so it very possible to add them.

We’ve yet to do a full blog on this, but we’ve made some changes to the block editor, to rename it the Page Editor: a universal tool for editing all widget areas in both app pages and Pages pages (I know, that’s a lot of pages), and introduce a quick way to search for widgets. Yes, that would be expected. You’ve reduced the size of the viewport, so the responsive design adjusts to keep as much useful information as possible.

As Ehren said, you have full control over the icons. You can choose emoji (as I did) or font awesome icons. It is also an option to remove them from the header, but keep them if you chose the sidebar. I’ve just removed them from the classic header.

One very simple CSS rule. We will likely add a page in our v5 docs for things like this, so you can easily copy and paste the code needed.
